dc.description The WAR CROSS was built in 1917 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.K. The War Cross is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 251 feet, and a width of 43 feet. It displaces 1886 tons, and has a load capacity of 1119 tons. It entered service in the year 1917 under the ownership of The Shipping Controller (J. Chambers & Co., Mgrs.) of London. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Total loss after stranding south of Kapsingmun Light House, Hong Kong, during a typhoon, September 4, 1937.
