The POLYNESIA was built in 1897 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Polynesia is a steel hulled barge with a length of 375 feet, and a width of 46 feet. It displaces 3562 tons, and has a load capacity of 3243 tons. It entered service in the year 1897 under the ownership of Lake County Transportation Co. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., 1940; scrapped at Hamilton, Ont., in 1941. The photograph shows the Polynesia under way on the Great Lakes.
