Description: The D. LEUTY was built in 1882 by Henry D. Root at Lorain, OH U.S. The D. Leuty is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 178 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 646 tons, and has a load capacity of 550 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded near Lighthouse Point, Marquette, MI, Lake Superior, on October 31, 1911, during snowstorm while running for shelter; became a total loss. No lives lost. The photograph shows the D. Leuty under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
