The ONOKO was built in 1882 by Globe Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Onoko is an iron hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 287 feet, and a width of 38 feet. It displaces 2164 tons, and has a load capacity of 1933 tons. It entered service in the year 1882 under the ownership of Philip Minch, et.al. of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sprung a leak under engine on September 14, 1915, abreast of Knife Island, Lake Superior, and sank in thirty-five minutes; no lives lost. Was downbound from Duluth, MN, with 110,000 bushels of wheat at time of loss. The photograph shows the Onoko under way on the Great Lakes.
