Description: The JOHN SHERMAN was built in 1865 by Peck & Masters at Cleveland, OH U.S. The John Sherman is a wood hulled steamer with a length of 175 feet, and a width of 28 feet. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Final enrollment surrendered at Port Huron, MI, December 6, 1893, and endorsed "Wrecked May 8, 1891." Newspaper account dated August, 1897, refers to vessel "abandoned a wreck and lying along St. Clair River bank below Port Huron." The photograph shows the John Sherman under way on the Great Lakes.
