The ROANOKE was built in 1867 by Ira LaFrinnier at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Roanoke is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 217 feet, and a width of 31 feet. It displaces 1069 tons, and has a load capacity of 956 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Burned and sank twenty miles off Fourteen Mile Point, Lake Superior, on August 7, 1894. Crew rescued from lifeboats the following day by propeller GEORGE SPENCER. Vessel was bound from Port Huron, MI, for Duluth, MN, with cargo of salt at time of loss.
