Description: The DARIUS COLE was built in 1885 by Globe Shipbuilding Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Darius Cole is an iron hulled steamer with a length of 201 feet, and a width of 32 feet. It displaces 538 tons, and has a load capacity of 402 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Burned off Barcelona, NY, Lake Erie, on September 1, 1925, while on excursion from Erie, PA, for Dunkirk, NY. Hull was beached. Later removed and towed to Dunkirk, NY, for scrapping. The photograph shows the Darius Cole under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
