Description: The M.P. BARKALOW was built in 1871 by Otis Harper at Perry, OH (built on the beach) U.S. The M.P. Barkalow is a wood hulled schooner with 2 masts, a length of 104 feet, and a width of 22 feet. It displaces 121 tons, and has a load capacity of 115 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Caught by southwest gale while at anchor about 1 1/2 miles west of Put-In-Bay, OH, Lake Erie, on April 26, 1902, and foundered. Was bound from Marine City, MI, for Sandusky, OH, with cargo of salt. Three of the four man crew were lost. The photograph shows the M.P. Barkalow at Amherstburg, Ont.
