Description: The MALIETOA was built in 1899 by Cleveland Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Malietoa is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 454 feet, and a width of 50 feet. It displaces 5229 tons, and has a load capacity of 3921 tons. It entered service in the year 1899 under the ownership of Minnesota Steamship Co. of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to Luria Brothers & Co. in June, 1963. Moved from Cleveland to Ashtabula, OH, in August, 1963, and scrapped there by Acme Scrap Iron & Metal Co. during the winter, 1963-1964. The photograph shows the Malietoa under way on the Great Lakes.
