Description: The VIRGINIA was built in 1891 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Virginia is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 269 feet, and a width of 38 feet. It displaces 1606 tons, and has a load capacity of 979 tons. It entered service in the year 1891 under the ownership of Goodrich Transportation Co. of Chicago, IL U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Burned during conversion to yacht, July 18, 1960, and was scrapped at Long Beach, CA. Final enrollment surrendered at Los Angeles in June, 1965, as "foundered." The photograph shows the Virginia under way on the Great Lakes.
