Description: The SCRANTON was built in 1888 by Cleveland Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Scranton is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 260 feet, and a width of 39 feet. It displaces 2015 tons, and has a load capacity of 1595 tons. It entered service in the year 1888 under the ownership of Lackawanna Transportation Co. of Buffalo, NY U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Arrived at Kam River, Fort William, Ont., August 16, 1957, for scrapping. Resold and burned prior to scrapping, August 5, 1958, at Fraser Shipyard, Superior, WI. The photograph shows the Scranton under way on the Great Lakes.
