Description: The NORMAN was built in 1890 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Norman is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 296 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 2304 tons, and has a load capacity of 1860 tons. It entered service in the year 1890 under the ownership of Menominee Transit Co. (M.A. Hanna & Co., Mgrs.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sunk in collision with Canadian propeller JACK, May 31, 1895, about fourteen miles northeast of Middle Island, MI, Lake Huron, in dense fog. Vessel was upbound light from Ashtabula, OH, for Escanaba, MI; three lives lost. The photograph shows the Norman under way on the Great Lakes.
