The JAMES J. HILL was built in 1900 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The James J. Hill is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 478 feet, and a width of 52 feet. It displaces 6025 tons, and has a load capacity of 4578 tons. It entered service in the year 1900 under the ownership of American Steamship Co. (Augustus B. Wolvin, Mgr.) of Duluth, MN U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold in summer, 1962, to City of Cleveland, OH, along with steamer WILLIAM EDENBORN, and scuttled for service as breakwater and landfill at Gordon Park.
