Description: The GREATER BUFFALO was built in 1924 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Greater Buffalo is a steel hulled steamer with a length of 518 feet, and a width of 58 feet. It displaces 7739 tons, and has a load capacity of 3330 tons. It entered service in the year 1924 under the ownership of Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Co. of Detroit, MI U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Scrapped at Hamilton, Ont., by Steel Co. of Canada, Ltd., in 1948. After being "trimmed" to fit through Welland Canal, passed downbound, in tow of tugs HELENA and J.C. STEWART, October 20, 1948. The photograph shows the Greater Buffalo at Detroit, MI.
