Description: The NORTH STAR was built in 1889 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The North Star is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 299 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 2476 tons, and has a load capacity of 1885 tons. It entered service in the year 1889 under the ownership of Northern Steamship Co. of Superior, WI U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sunk in collision with propeller NORTHERN QUEEN in dense fog, November 25, 1908, off Sanilac, MI, Lake Huron; no lives lost. Vessel was downbound from Duluth with mixed cargo of flour, wheat, and shingles at time of loss. The photograph shows the North Star under way on the Great Lakes.
