The JOSEPH S. FAY was built in 1871 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Joseph S. Fay is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 215 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 882 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded off Forty-Mile Point, MI, Lake Huron, October 19, 1905, with schooner D.P. RHODES in tow; one life lost. Schooner stranded just north of propeller, but later released. The photograph shows the Joseph S. Fay under way on the Great Lakes.
