The CARMEN was built in 1917 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH NORWAY. The Carmen is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 251 feet, and a width of 43 feet. It displaces 2042 tons, and has a load capacity of 1262 tons. It entered service in the year 1917 under the ownership of Skibs Akties Lodding's Rederi (T. Lodding, Mgr.) of Bergen. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Torpedoed and sunk by U.S. submarine BOWFIN, June 11, 1945, in Sea of Japan. The photograph shows the Carmen under way on the Great Lakes.
