Description: The LOUIS W. HILL was built in 1917 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Louis W. Hill is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 525 feet, and a width of 58 feet. It displaces 7038 tons, and has a load capacity of 5648 tons. It entered service in the year 1917 under the ownership of Producers Steamship Co. (M.A. Hanna Co., Mgr.) of Cleveland, OH U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: After being laid up for a few years at Superior, WI, sold for use as marine museum for $10,000. Departed Superior in tow of tug JOHN PURVES on July 1, 1968, and arrived at Sault Ste. Marie, July 3, 1968. The photograph shows the Louis W. Hill under way on the Great Lakes.
