The W.L. WETMORE was built in 1871 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The W.L. Wetmore is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 215 feet, and a width of 33 feet. It displaces 850 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Stranded two miles below Tobermory, Ontario, Georgian Bay, November 29, 1901, with barges BRUNETTE and KING in tow, bound from Parry Sound, Ontario, for Buffalo, with lumber; no lives lost. Final enrollment surrendered at Buffalo, NY, January 20, 1902, and endorsed "vessel lost." The photograph shows the W.L. Wetmore under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website |
