Description: The RUTLAND was built in 1906 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Rutland is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 242 feet, and a width of 43 feet. It displaces 2321 tons, and has a load capacity of 1668 tons. It entered service in the year 1906 under the ownership of Rutland Transit Co. of Buffalo, NY U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered off Cape Santa Antonio, Cuba, in hurricane, Caribbean Sea, August 16, 1916; twenty lives lost. Six crew members rescued off raft five days later by Swedish bark TANA. Vessel was bound from Port Arthur, TX, for Buenos Aires, Argentina.
