Description: The PERE MARQUETTE 17 was built in 1901 by American Ship Building Co. at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Pere Marquette 17 is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 338 feet, and a width of 56 feet. It displaces 2775 tons, and has a load capacity of 1685 tons. It entered service in the year 1901 under the ownership of Pere Marquette Railway Co. of Detroit, MI U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold in spring, 1961, to Acme Scrap Iron & Metal Co., and arrived at Ashtabula, OH, May 15, 1961, for scrapping. Removed from documentation, October, 1964. The photograph shows the Pere Marquette 17 under way on the Great Lakes. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
