Description: The PITTSBURGH was built in 1911 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Pittsburgh is a steel hulled tug with a length of 61 feet, and a width of 16 feet. It displaces 45 tons, and has a load capacity of 31 tons. It entered service in the year 1911 under the ownership of Booth Fisheries Co. of Chicago, IL U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered on Lake Michigan, December 18, 1959, bound from Sturgeon Bay, WI, for South Fox Island; two lives lost. Was being used as freight boat for logging operations on South Fox Island. The photograph shows the Pittsburgh at Soo Locks. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
