Description: The SPECULAR was built in 1882 by George & Co. Presley at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Specular is a wood hulled schooner with a length of 263 feet, and a width of 38 feet. It displaces 1687 tons, and has a load capacity of 1602 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sunk in collision with propeller DENVER, August 22, 1900, off Point Pelee, Lake Erie. Wreck blown up as menace to navigation, October 23, 1900. The photograph shows the Specular at Cleveland, OH. More information about this vessel is available at the HCGL Website
