The SARANAC was built in 1890 by Globe Iron Works at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Saranac is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 290 feet, and a width of 40 feet. It displaces 2669 tons, and has a load capacity of 1939 tons. It entered service in the year 1890 under the ownership of Lehigh Valley Transportation Co. of Buffalo, NY U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered about 100 miles off coast of Georgia, Atlantic Ocean, in March, 1920.
