Description: The THOMAS WILSON was built in 1943 by American Ship Building Co. at Lorain, OH U.S. The Thomas Wilson is a steel hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 604 feet, and a width of 60 feet. It displaces 8758 tons, and has a load capacity of 6472 tons. It entered service in the year 1943 under the ownership of U.S. Maritime Administration of Washington, DC U.S. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Sold to Corostel Trading, Ltd. in 1987 for scrapping. WILSON was lost in heavy seas on December 31, 1987 while being towed. Presumed to have broken up and sunk. (CHIPS, March 5, 1988) The photograph shows the Thomas Wilson under way on the Great Lakes.
