The IRONSIDES was built in 1864 by Quayle & Martin at Cleveland, OH U.S. The Ironsides is a wood hulled propeller driven vessel with a length of 218 feet, and a width of 30 feet. It displaces 937 tons. The vessel was removed from service with the following notation: Foundered off Grand Haven, MI, on September 15, 1873 with the loss of 28 lives. The photograph shows the Ironsides under way on the Great Lakes.
