Your help is needed in the prevention of rape and other types of sexual assaults. You will research the topic and create an informative pamphlet, poster, and presentation about what you have learned.
After reading the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson your group of three students will pick roles. One student will study types of self defense, another student will learn the steps to take if you or someone you know has been a victim of a sexual attack, and the final person will research about how to avoid becoming a victim of rape. After each group member has researched his or her role, he or she will then write a one-page journal entry about what he or she learned. Your group members will then share the information that they have learned with the other group members in an informal within group presentation. Your group should then compile a list of the most important aspects of each role and use that list to guide them in creating your brochure. Then you will take time again to reflect on what you have learned by creating a one-page journal entry. After that your group will work as a team and use Microsoft Publisher to make a pamphlet.
Along with a brochure your group should make a poster that has illustrations and poems that your group creates related to the topic of sexual assault. The more illustrations and poems you write the better; however, you are required to have at least one poem and one illustration but an overall total of three types of creative works. So that would be two illustrations and one poem or one illustration and two poems.
Next your group will present your poster to the class. Although all of the posters that your class creates will be displayed throughout the school, your class will select the "best" poster to be hung in a special spot in the school and included in the school newsletter.
