| Johnny needs your help! He has killed Bob, a Soc, and
is now faced with punishment for murder. The class must get into groups
of four, read the story through at least chapter 5, and make predictions
in their journals. Then the group must form a jury, research perspectives,
and reach a verdict for Johnny.
Each group must read through the middle of chapter 4 and make a prediction about what happens after the murder takes place. Then they will share their predictions and read through chapter 5 to see what really happens. As a jury, each group must research the different perspectives of the case. Each member will research a different perspective on why Johnny killed Bob. Juror #1 will argue that it was murder, juror #2 will argue that he killed in self-defense, juror #3 will argue that Johnny’s situation is caused by his environment, and juror #4 will look at the big picture of what gangs do to society and where Johnny fits into this picture. Each juror will write their evidence down in their journal. Once each member
has their evidence, they will join as a group to make a verdict of whether
or not Johnny should be convicted of murder. The group must write a
two page paper explaining their verdict and the process they went through
to arrive at the verdict they did. This paper will be evaluated using
the rubric found in the evaluation link. |
